Baume & Mercier have always admired those heroes who were leaders in performance, those who were constantly in pursuit of being “the Best”.

It was only natural therefore that B&M would commemorate the life and achievements of an American motorsport hero, Carrol Hall Shelby, who designed and raced some of the fastest vehicles of his time, including the legendary AC Cobra!

Here we have a B&M Capeland Shelby Cobra watch; a limited-edition, One of 1963 in total, which commemorates the black COBRA, chassis number CSX2128, a 289 Roadster built to conquer the gruelling 1963 “12 HOURS OF SEBRING” race, competing as number 15.

Boasting an impressive 44mm satin-finished stainless steel case, this B&M Capeland Shelby Cobra Limited Edition watch shows off its automatic Valjoux 7753-based movement through an open sapphire crystal case back. The custom black oscillating rotor mesmerises the wearer with every movement of the wrist. The rotor looks fabulous, in an ominous and menacing way!

The centre of the case back is printed with the number “15”, a homage to the car’s racing roundel, which is a lovely and subtle touch.

The striking black dial is set with silver- and yellow-coloured hands, with the highly polished seconds hand, detailed with the famous Cobra snake head logo. Even the strap pays homage to the legend by featuring black alligator leather with a sporty yellow calfskin lining.

Overall, our example is in great condition, showing minimal signs of wear. There are a few lightest of scratches around the case, particularly near the “Date Change” button, on the case edge at 10. Nothing that is detrimental but we feel we should mention them.

The Original Box and Papers are present, along with an additional new Black & Yellow Alligator strap too. All are housed in a perfect and original presentation box which still retains the 1/24 model of CSX2128, the car from which inspiration for this watch came.
