Breitling Genève – Military Style 38mm Oversize
Thank you Duncan for purchasing this wonderful watch. We hope you enjoy it.
A brand long associated with aviation, Breitling was founded in Jura Switzerland in 1884 by Leon Breitling. The brand is renowned for being a specialist of technical timepieces and played a pivotal part in the development of the world’s first chronograph. It is no wonder then, that their watches are collected with such vigour.
This particular Breitling Genève has the look of the Cadette, but the size of some of their oversize military jumbos. At 38mm x 46mm, it is a good size, without being over-powering.
The signed case with snap back is nickel chromed and is in very good condition with some marks of use. There are no major dings or bashes, just light scratches and a tiny amount of pitting. Not bad for a watch with 50 plus years of life having passed it by!
The original signed movement is working and keeping good time. It has a positive wind, with a good power reserve. Although quite quiet, the “tick” is really lovely; it sounds precise.
The crown looks to be original, but as it is not marked with the signature “B” we shall call it a generic, but “in-period” replacement, having the same patina. It fits the thumb and forefinger perfectly.
The original cream dial is in good condition with a Guilloche outer ring and gilt hour markers, the sub-dial at 6 shows seconds.
The hands are original and in very good condition for their age. The lume is also original and is showing some foxing/discolouration commensurate with the age of the watch.
This watch is presented on a Brown leather “Alligator” embossed strap with Silver Gilt buckle. It’s a great looking watch at just the right size, and is ready to wear.
