Bremont Jaguar C-Type Chronograph C-TYPE-SS-R-S
£4995
With the release of the new Bremont Jaguar C-Type Chronograph C-TYPE-SS-R-S watch, Bremont commemorates the epic triumph of Duncan Hamilton at the 1953 Le Mans race, which occurred 70 years ago. Its dynamic reverse panda dial, tyre-inspired screw-in crown, and stainless-steel Trip-Tick© casing flawlessly embody the spirit of invention and elegance displayed by its renowned automobile equivalent.
Jaguar and Bremont first collaborated in 2010 when the British automaker requested the watchmaker’s assistance in designing a distinctive analogue dashboard clock for the Jaguar C-X75. Bremont has since routinely paid homage to some of the most significant Jaguar racing icons of the 20th century, particularly the C-type, D-type, and E-type models. The two have worked together on a number of projects since then.
To commemorate the 70th anniversary of Duncan Hamilton’s victory in the 1953 Le Mans race, where the Jaguar C-types finished first, second, and fourth, Bremont took inspiration for their second iteration of their C-Type watch, from the vehicle’s design. This particular C-Type is very special too; it is serial number 15800, purportedly, the first new C-Type watch to be produced and a gift from the English brothers at Bremont to Dominic Hamilton (Duncan’s grandson) for his contribution and assistance in producing this new design!
The new Bremont Jaguar C-Type watch maintains a traditional monochrome design with a 43mm stainless steel case that was created using the company’s Trip-Tick© case construction and a scratch-resistant PVD treated case centre. The screw-in crown at 3 o’clock has the original Jaguar heritage Dunlop tyre tread engraved on it, while the bi-directional rotating bezel on top with a tachymeter scale pays homage to the disc brake of the C-Type. The 2023 Bremont Jaguar C-Type watch also has a unique closed case back with a decorative coin featuring the Jaguar “Growler” hood insignia. This is visible when you turn the watch over.
The Bremont Jaguar C-Type watch marks the first time the company has introduced a reverse panda dial with a black display and white glossy counters. Previously, Bremont had only introduced their Jaguar watches with silver dials. The dial’s arrangement is similar to that of the gauges featured in the racing cars, with large white Arabic numerals, a tiny seconds sub dial in white at 9 o’clock, and a chronograph 30-minute counter in white at 3. The chronograph hand was modelled using the needle on the C-Type tachometer as inspiration, and the central hour and minute hands offer easy reading with blue emission Super Luminova.
The automated winding Calibre BE-50AV serves as the 2023 Bremont Jaguar C-Type watch’s power source. It boasts a frequency of 28,800vph, a 56-hour power reserve, a Glucydur balance wheel, an Anachron balance spring, and a Nivaflex mainspring, so Bremont haven’t scrimped!
A modern black leather racing strap and a classic stainless steel pin buckle complete the Bremont Jaguar “C-Type” watch.
