Omega Seamaster Albatros

£1795

The Omega Seamaster “Albatros” Montreal 1976, one of OMEGA’s most renowned and unusual timepieces.

The watch was one of the first quartz watches produced by Omega to celebrate the 1976 Montreal Olympics.

Only 15,000 pieces were made from 1976 to 1978.

With its innovative 1611 calibre, only ever used in this watch- the first chronograph in the world to combine an analogue display for the time and a digital display for the chronograph, each working independently but running on the same 32khz quartz resonator.

This is a big watch. It weighs 152 grams, and the width is 51mm. Still very comfortable and sits on the wrist well – so you don’t need to be brave to wear it!

This example is in excellent condition. Any 45-year-old watch of this size and heft will have the odd scratch or dent, but it’s still in great shape. The sapphire crystal is pretty clean and the bracelet doesn’t have excessive play and is sharp too. Most importantly, all the pushers/functions work as they should. The only very small defect is the bottom LCD display ‘bleeds’ on one digit when displaying a 1, 4 or 7. It is very slight (see example photo).

The design of the watch remains very distinctive from the case to the integral solid link bracelet (with its deployment clasp it fits wrists up to 22 cm). The case back has both the Seamaster hippocampus and the Olympic crest.
The chronograph module is controlled by three round pushers on the left side of the case and the analogue time and date are adjusted by the crown.

It also comes with a 1970s Omega velvet box.

When new in 1976, the watch cost £375; by contrast Omega’s more famous Speedmaster 145.022 cost £175. This made the Chrono-Quartz very expensive in comparison to Omega’s other chronographs.

We would love to sell this amazing timepiece for £375, we can’t but it’s still worth every penny!
