Yes, the ‘Air King-Date’ has lived in the footsteps of its bigger brothers, the GMT, the Submariner, and Daytona, but it is no less a Rolex for that. In fact, with its uncomplicated simplicity, it is the pure distillation of the design philosophy of the Rolex Watch Company.

The Rolex “Air-King-Date,” reference 15000, is part of the Oyster Perpetual Date collection, which was launched in the 1960s and continued production until the late 1980s. Our watch has an ‘L’ serial number that shows that it was manufactured in 1989, so it was one of the last to be produced. It sports a classic watch size of 34mm but wears more like 36mm on the wrist.

The elegant and understated stainless steel case houses an automatic movement, a Calibre 1520 beating at 19800 vph, and with a power reserve of 42 hours, it gets the job of telling the time done perfectly. Oh, and it has been serviced recently, so all is just tickety-boo!
